Senator Shaheen released the following statement after the Paycheck Fairness Act failed to clear a procedural hurdle in the Senate: “Today we had yet another opportunity to address the gender pay gap that has kept millions of American women from earning the same amount as their male counterparts, and I am disappointed that some in Congress blocked consideration of a common-sense plan to help address pay discrimination. Eliminating the gender pay-gap is not just about women; it is about families, our economy and our future.
