Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have challenged Obama’s new Attorney General appointee to denounce the President’s amnesty plans; a tall order for anyone in bed with Obama, but one which would quickly determine the motivations behind any top government official. Obama nominated Loretta Lynch, who is currently the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, to replace Eric Holder, who will remain the head of the Department of Justice until his successor is confirmed. Senator Mitch McConnell jumped on board with Cruz and Lee, saying: “As attorney general, Eric Holder too often put political and ideological commitments ahead of the rule of law. That’s not something the American people expect in the nation’s highest law-enforcement official, and it’s something Mr. Holder’s replacement should commit to avoiding at all costs as a condition of his or her confirmation — whether it relates to the President’s acting unilaterally on immigration or anything else.” Senator Rand Paul also agreed with Cruz and Lee, commenting: “I think the attorney general should, whoever the nominee is, acknowledge that they will operate independent of politics, independent of the president and under the direction of the Constitution. The Constitution really doesn’t allow the president to legislate. It’s a host of issues; I wouldn’t limit it to just immigration.” In Obama’s nomination speech, he praised Lynch for her commitment to “fairness, equality, and justice,” but it remains to be seen if she will actually live up this reputation. If she aims to, she should start by voicing her opposition of Obama’s plan to sign an executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. She could prove herself as a patriot in one sentence, however, it would be a bold move to defy the man who appointed her. It’s no secret that Obama places his cronies in positions of power; appointing those whom he is sure will further his radical agenda. We’ll be watching to see how Ms. Lynch feels regarding amnesty. Do you think she is likely to accept the challenge from Cruz and Lee?
