Senegal through to playoffs The 2002 World Cup quarterfinalists Senegal have this evening qualified for the final phase of the 2014 World Cup. Coach Alain Giresse’s side needed a second half Sadio Mane goal to silence the 10-man Uganda Cranes team at the Stade de Marrakech Stadium in Morocco. Cranes defender Geoffrey Walusimbi was sent-off for a bad foul on Gassama Lamine in the 36th minute. Earlier another Cranes defender Isaac Isinde had also been cautioned. But Manchester United striker Diouf Mane Biram had missed several scoring chances for the Lions, before he was replaced. Uganda Cranes finished the match with skipper Andrew Mwesigwa out getting medical attention. The win sent Senegal top of the table with 12 points, while the Cecafa regional champions finished with 8 points. Senegal now joins the likes of Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt and Ivory Coast among others in the final phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
