Senior B Championship Final - Emmet Óg 1-09 Clonguish 0-11 posted 2 hours ago by itofficer longford Match Report from Senior B Final. by Deniese O’Flaherty An excellent goal from nippy corner forward Larry Moran just minutes into the second-half was the difference as Emmet Og claimed the Senior B Championship title with one point to spare over 14 man Clonguish in a sun-drenched Dunbeggan on Sunday afternoon. Clonguish had a chance deep in stoppage time to force extra-time but Derek Duggan took a short ’45 which was gathered by a Killoe defender and seconds later referee Stephen Tierney blew the full-time whistle. The Newtownforbes side had to play most of the game with 14 men after midfielder John Dowd was sent off five minutes from the break for a second yellow card. It was a huge blow for his side who missed his presence in the middle of the park. Despite starting the game well Emmet Og found themselves trailing by three points to no score in the 6th minute; Ciaran Williams registered the first score of the game in the 3rd minute, Ian Reilly pointed over a free minutes later and that was followed by a great point from David Faughnan. But a free from Moran and a nice point from Padraig Reily cut the gap to one point in the 11th minute. Points from Duggan (free) and another fine effort from Faughnan restored Clonguish’s three point advantage in the 19th minute. Points were then traded between Moran (free) and Williams before Dowd received his second yellow card for a foul on Emmet Og midfielder Brian Finnerty. There was two between them at half-time when Stephen Coy pointed over a neat effort in first half stoppage time. Clonguish were three in front again four minutes after the break when Stephen McLoughlin pointed but then Emmet Og began to dominate possession; Moran pointed over a free in the 36th minute and followed it up with a fantastic low drive that nestled in the corner of the net. It gave the the Killoe side the lead for the first time in the game and it was one they didn’t relinquish. The lead was stretched to three in the 42nd minute with a free from Liam Hughes and a fine point from Moran. Clonguish replied with a nice point from Shane O’Brien and a Reilly free to leave one between them in the 44th minute. Hughes was on target again in the 49th minute before Clonguish replied with a free from Williams. Emmet Og edged ahead by two points in the 60th minute when Michael Connell pointed over but seconds later it was a one point game again when Williams fired over a good score. As the clock ticked down Clonguish tried hard to level the game. In their final attack they won a ’45, Duggan decided to take a short kick which was caught by an Emmet Og defender and seconds later the game was over.
