Senior Early Childhood Development Specialist - mothers2mothers - Cape Town mothers2mothers (m2m) is an international NGO headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa, dedicated to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV and providing education and support to pregnant women and mothers living with HIV. m2m empowers HIV-positive pregnant women, enabling them to fight stigma in their communities and to live positive and productive lives. mothers2mothers currently operates in six African countries. To further its goal of maximising maternal and infant health outcomes, m2m is broadening the scope of its peer-based RMNCH/PMTCT education and psychosocial support model to integrate early childhood development interventions for the 0-2 age group. m2m seeks to appoint a Senior Early Childhood Development (ECD) Specialist, based in Cape Town, South Africa (40%) and Mbabane, Swaziland (30%) and Maseru, Lesotho (30%). The Senior ECD Specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance and project leadership for m2m’s new early childhood development portfolio. Working collaboratively with m2m head office and country-based staff, the Senior ECD Specialist will design new interventions, prepare programme guidelines, contribute to quality assurance and programme development, facilitate learning and internal capacity building among programme staff, and expand the implementation of m2m’s ECD interventions in line with m2m’s overall programme strategy. This includes serving as m2m’s lead on a new USAID-funded ECD/PMTCT implementation research project in Swaziland and Lesotho. The ECD Specialist reports to the Director of Programmes and Technical Support (DPTS). Responsibilities: Serve as m2m Project Lead on integration of ECD and PMTCT implementation research project in Swaziland and Lesotho, to include: Programme intervention design, in conjunction with m2m Swaziland and Lesotho teams; Technical leadership for programme start-up; Key project stakeholder relationship liaison and management; Identify, analyse and validate good practices and lessons learnt in ECD programming to contribute to m2m ECD strategy development; Lead development of evidence-based ECD framework, project models, development of programme designs, and technical guidance in partnership with m2m head office and country teams; Provide technical assistance and leadership on ECD to m2m head office and country office staff, including facilitating learning and internal capacity building; In conjunction with the M&E unit, develop ECD indicators and methods to measure m2m’s ECD outputs, outcomes and impact; In conjunction with the Training & Education unit, contribute to ECD curricula development, and design of appropriate standards and quality checklists for ECD; Provide technical support to ECD proposal development at both head office and country level; Represent m2m in ECD inter-agency and technical fora, and foster new external relations for m2m around ECD programming. Requirements: Masters in early childhood development, education, social sciences or related field; 5-7 years early childhood development programme design/implementation and international field experience, preferably including, but not limited to, experience in the 0-2 age group; Demonstrated experience leading public health project design processes in resource limited settings; Design and conceptualisation skills – able to think creatively and systematically at all project levels (goal, objectives, activities, inputs); Working knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS/PMTCT and opportunities for integration of ECD interventions; Experience working with USG funded projects; Experience in designing, conducting and managing research in ECD; Proven ability to provide high quality technical assistance and guidance to field staff; Demonstrated experience in proposal development, including design and writing of technical strategies; Extensive Experience in materials development to support ECD programming; Experience in managing complex stakeholder processes and ability to provide clear communication around those processes; Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines; Self-starter, team player and results-oriented; Communication and writing skills; Willingness to travel 50-60 percent of the time.
