Sentencing is scheduled Monday for a former senior officer of the Merritt RCMP detachment accused of stealing and using cocaine from a police exhibit. Stuart Seib, an 18-year-veteran of the force, pleaded guilty to breach of trust last May after cocaine went missing from an evidence locker in Merritt about six months earlier. He previously served as the detachment commander in Clearwater for eight years. Seib was arrested in January 2012, three months after taking his position in Merritt, and was accused of stealing cocaine on more than one occasion for his own use. The arrest came after he allegedly told a fellow officer what he had done. Along with breach of trust, his charges also included two counts of theft under $5,000. The 54-year-old officially resigned from the force last year.
