Sept 11, 2001 I remember this day. I remember seeing the strange hole in the skyline. I remember watching with my bare eyes, while standing on the corner of Broadway and Spring, the second tower fall. It fell slow, slow enough for my eyes to believe what it saw. Plumes of black smoke billowed upward. Thousands of people walked against traffic, up Broadway, covered in grey soot. We stood in small crowds around a van, doors swung open, and radio on blast reporting the current news. I remember September 11th. I remember wanting to do something - anything to help the people who were hurt. And I remember the eerie results, they ALL were dead. No survivors. There was no need for the blood we all lined up in droves to donate. I remember. It wasnt that long ago. And I remember the feeling of helplessness. To want to make a difference so bad, and to feel so insignificant and so small in the face of such great disaster. It was in this time I discovered that music is my super power. MY personal strength to contribute to the world. In this time of great mourning, my power emerged. It told me that this is what I am to do. This is the unique gift that I can apply to healing in the world. As small as I may be, in the face of disaster, you will notice that I always sing as though someones life depends on it. It is my voice that can reach millions at a time. And it is this power that I hope never to waste.
