Sept. 16-19 Rehearsal Notes (sorry for the bad format...this is posted on the band room door & on MyJC) Circus Days: -Shoot for Quarter Note = 188 for tempo -Cleanliness is more important than volume-if we play the notes together & with energy, the volume will happen without extra effort -Make sure the fz’s stick out when you have those-lots of front on the note & fast air -trombones-work on fast slides! Work with a metronome to make sure you’re coming in after the eighth rests/tied notes in time -exaggerate the piano dynamic in the 4th measure of 22 -watch the subito mf at m. 55 the first time through (but keep it loud & intense the 2nd time!) Acrostic Song: -all the cresc/decresc are being pushed by the back row, low voices up: don’t get louder than the person behind you -watch carefully-no one should ever be in front of the conductor-listen to the piece, I’ll be slowing down where the music is telling me to-where it makes sense to relax the tempo! -people with whole notes in m. 21-TUNE! Hear those intervals -entrances between m. 27-37 should be very sneaky-we should even notice you’re in until a bar or so later-soft articulations and warm air Sheltering Sky: -take your time at the beginning-work on your control-esp. of your air! -if you have moving lines they should come out, but anything that’s more stagnant should just be soft, but secure-provide a good bass for the melodies & countermelodies -lots of trumpet starting at F-after H!! Big sound, fast air, don’t blat. Thing big & grand! Albanian Dance: -we have 3 weeks left-be working with a metronome and make sure you have those runs in your fingers: let’s make it our goal to have it learned and comfortable by MONDAY, OCT 7! -time is our biggest issue: EVERYONE is to be working with a metronome-even the accompaniment voices! -watch those dynamic shifts-exaggerate a bit more -CLARINETS & SAXES: remember there are lots of you, don’t sacrifice time & accuracy for volume-it is plenty loud-it’s more important that it’s clean! II. Schottische -CLARINETS: mostly good, make sure we are more consistent with the measures like m. 7. Get that securely in your fingers! -CLARINETS & SAXES: watch those 8th rests (ex. 2 & 4 after rehearsal 1) -lean into any accents a bit more -EVERYONE needs to work on 5 & 6 before rehearsal 2 (esp. lower voices) -4 before rehearsal 3: don’t rush those notes on beats 1 & 3-the flutes have a lot of notes to put in there! -FLUTES: work on those notes & rhythms 4 before rehearsal 3 (and the other spots like it!) Think Jazzy, think swingy! -EVERYONE watch time 4 before rehearsal 5 & make that crescendo nice and steady reaching a forte+ 2 before rehearsal 5
