September 1st. Today marks my birthday, but more importantly to me, it marks the beginning of Childhood Cancer Awareness month. After having the amazing opportunity to work at a camp for pediatric cancer patients this summer, I realized that it was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. So today, as my teenage years have come to a close, the rest of my life is truly beginning and if I could ask for anything from just one of you, it would be to recognize that life is precious. After 20 years I have been given so many beautiful memories but everyday kids are loosing their chance. Its estimated that anywhere from about $30 to $180 million dollars goes towards pediatric cancer funding, with the average diagnosis age being 10. Breast cancer funding annually relieves about $843 million per year with the average age of diagnosis being 61. I am not saying that any cancer is worse than another but when calculated, if someone dies at the age of 61 from breast cancer, they have lost 16 possible years of life. When a child dies at age 10 of cancer, they have lost 67 possible years of life. I dont want to be controversial but these children are my passion and my hopeful future.
