September 28th, 2012. That is the exact day I officially became homeless. I walked into the intake office here at Haven for Hope shaky, anxious, and terrified about my future. In shrot order I found myself living at a notorious Homeless Shelter (Prospects CourtYard, or, PCY). There I was diagnosed as Bi-Polar Type II Schizoaffective, and wound up living for 7 months in an intensive treatment facility for the homeless and mentally ill. During that time, and after, I have grown immensely as a person. Living in a shelter, literally hand to mouth struggling to just get enough food at times, has been an incredibly humbling experience for me. But now my time as a homeless man is over. I have qualified through a program here for an aprtment, rent and utilities paid for one full year. Just an hour ago I got my final confirmation, I have been approved and I move in on Friday :D!!! I am so excited I can;t believe it. After all this time, nearly two full years of homelessness, I am going to have my very own little apartment. It means so much to me, so very very much. I am giddy like a kid on Christmas Eve. I almost dont know what to do with myself. I have a lot of work to do between now and Friday. Being homeless for two years, I own essentially nothing outside of some clothes. Ive got to scramble to connect to a variety of charities here to help me with things. One can provide a bed/box springs, another some pots and pans, still another some dishes, etc etc. I think I can get most of the major things but there are likely to be many minor things I wont be able to get ahold of, things like a shower curtain or a mop bucket (Or hell, a mop for that matter.) I only make 60$ a week from donating plasma. (Ive goot food stamps+tons of local food pantries so Ill be able to eat at least) There are likely to be many things Im going to be lacking at first, and with only 60 bucks a week its going to take me quite some time to buy them all. IF any of you would like to pitch in to the Help Aarons Broke Ass (HABS) fund, that would be really helpful. For the charitably inclined I have a paypal account. Just send the money to revictioncasting@gmail Every little bit helps! Thanks soooo much in advance for being awesome people, whether you donate or not. The support of many people over the past two years has made such a difference in my life.
