As fate would have it, at the start of our meeting, she received and emergency call and had to respond. Her husband, Dave then spoke on her behalf. Puddie was 17 years old when someone needed an ambulance in Slippery Rock and the nearest one was coming from Grove City. At that moment she knew there needed to be an ambulance service in Slippery Rock and when she turned 18, she became an EMT and set the wheels in motion. Since 1974, Slippery Rock has had a Rescue team and will be celebrating its 4oth anniversary next year. The Fire Department has made 900 calls this year, 808 of which were EMS calls. They cover a 125 sq. mile area. They have 3 Advanced Life Support Ambulances which are staffed 24 hours. If a second call comes in at the same time, there is a second crew on call at home then they are backed up by Superior in Grove City and Butler Ambulance Service. They are the third busiest ambulance in the county behind Butler and Cranberry. They are licensed by the state for a 5 year period. The paramedics have a paid position and the EMT’s are usually volunteers. Dave is very proud of his wife; she is great at what she does. Building Project update. They should receive final approval from the state this week. The station will be built behind the current station which is currently a wooded area. They hope to break ground in 6 weeks. The ambulance building will be the first phase which will cost around 1 million dollars. The fire truck garage space is part of the second phase. Brad presented Dave with a check from our Rotary for $1000.00 Happy Bucks Hank is happy for our speaker. Ken H is happy for the Pirates. Go Bucs!!! Nicole is giving a dollar for Paul who had to leave early. Joe L is happy for Regina and the golf outing this past Friday. Joe M. is happy for Dave and the Fire Company. Karen is happy to be home from Omaha where she attended a Rural and Small Library Conference. She, looking on the bright side, was pick-pocketed in both Omaha and Chicago Airport, but her credit cards were almost maxed out so they won’t be getting much. Art is happy for the successful golf outing. Paul Rizza is happy to have given Nicole a buck for Happy Bucks as he had to leave. Warren is happy for the successful golf outing. Paul Suorsa is happy Josh Duman is from Nanty Glo as are some of Paul’s relatives and happy to say grandson Cameron who is on Youth Council in 4H where they had a successful auction. Barbara is happy to be picking up her little puppy at the vets at 2 who is having a plastic bottle cap removed from her tummy. 4-Way Test – Hank Lunch provided by North Country Brewing.
