September 7, 1993 OBLIVION (Seekers Of Starlight) Little babe-in-arms can hear a lullaby Where his milk and honey are food for thought Life’s a simple game when you don’t ask why The seasons change and the days grow short But what I learn from here’s now a part of me Like a road I travel for right or wrong Every sight I see stirs a memory Should I steal your thoughts and write a song Remember your first love as she stormed out the screen door Wrote a poison pen letter and said I’m not coming back Remember the klaxons that rang out for a child’s war The coalbunker burned out in a phoney attack Remember silence was golden before noon on Friday The sign on the closed door saying do not disturb Remember life is a journey down a red gravel highway With tunnels to China and a warren of curves I heard paradise calling as I jumped from the ceiling Shook hands with the reaper when my faith needed healing The alarm clock said “game’s up” for all the seekers of starlight And constellations descended into the dark oblivion of time History clung to the stages of Broadway The Flying Dutchman was grounded and Atlantis…she rose! Is this all I can see in the eyes of tomorrow As the sunlight shines emerald and the book starts to close To the babe-in-arms it’s all a lullaby But his milk and honey are growing cold Do human cries sound like a melody Sometimes I think its better we don’t know Yes, I only seek oblivion when I’m alone
