"September Mourn"- by K G Hoffman (2011) September Morn, blue Tuesday sky. The crisp air of autumn nigh. Ships set sail, seagulls fly. Lady Liberty’s torch held up high. Then mid morn, steel birds from the sky. Nineteen Saracens, thousands die. First responders, gallantly they try. Smolder and dust, tears from harbor lady’s eyes. Search for survivors, far and wide. Only a few from death’s grip could they pry. Then on the morrow, day took over the night, Three firemen, old glory above the rubble rise. Widows weep, orphans cry, And the friends are left to wonder why. Days pass, years gone by. Remember those ascended, into the sky. In rememberance of two thousand, nine hundred and seventy-seven; murdered by members of Al Queda. September 11, 2001, including the 343 members of the NYFD and 60 members of the NYPD and PAPD who sacrificed their lives in the evacuation of the World Trade Center
