Serbian Shield 03 to test the readiness of the Serbian infantry troops! BELGRADE – The exercise entitled ‘Serbian Shield 03′ to test the readiness of the infantry troops of the Serbian Armed Forces for participation in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon began in southern Serbia, in the vicinity of the South military base near Bujanovac, on Tuesday. If the exercise shows that the troops are well-qualified for performing the tasks envisaged in the UN requirements, formal conditions will be fulfilled for 130 Serbian soldiers to take part in the peacekeeping mission in early November. During the three-day exercise, members of the infantry troop will be deployed in several dozen tactical tasks they could face in Lebanon, the Armed Forces released. The soldiers’ tasks will be to implement standard operative procedures of the UN promptly and efficiently. A team of evaluators will assess their work and then issue the final assessment of the unit’s readiness. The exercise is also attended by four officers of the Spanish Armed Forces as observers, and they are headed by the commander of the battalion within which the unit of Serbian soldiers would be operating. The future commander over the Spanish contingent underscored that the reports on the work and activities of Serbian soldiers are very good. In keeping with this, he noted that he expects the unit in the exercise to fully complete its task, the Armed Forces said in the release posted on their website. An infantry troop of the Serbian Armed Forces was deployed within the UN Spanish contingent in Lebanon in November 2012 and its soldiers are replaced on a six-months basis.
