Serial spoilers follow... So in the end this captured how I felt about Serial. Personally I loved the series and ultimately felt satisfied with its resolution. The nuances of the case, details of whether a particular piece of evidence matters or not, whether Jay and Anand were secretly lovers (Stella Youngs theory of the case) are less important than the light it shined on the American justice system. We don’t know whether Syed is guilty or innocent. We may never know. But because of Serial, we do know, once again, that standards of justice in this country are applied unevenly, often unfairly, and that’s why Serial matters. Not because it told an arresting story or captured our imagination, but because it does what journalism is supposed to do: tell the truth.
