Serious discussion here. I always take the position in a civil suit for money damages that the identities of the parties should be public. As should be the jury trial proceedings. In a case from Oklahoma (for the Federal Jury Verdict Reporter), an inmate with HIV was segregated while in jail because of that status. Sued as a John Doe alleged Disability Discrimination regarding the segregation. Court permitted him to proceed pseudonym (thats a hard word to spell) and case never identified him. Just John Doe v. Payne County Jail. Took me five minutes to discover (by lawful means) that the plaintiff is Kevin Ogle. I think it is appropriate to publish the case as Ogle v. Payne County and fully identify him. Why? A civil suit for money damages that results in a jury trial is among the most public of activities that we engage in as citizens. Proceeding in secret is a bad idea. What are your thoughts on this?
