Serious talk for industry people and any self appointed experts - TopicsExpress

Serious talk for industry people and any self appointed experts as well: We can (and lets face it, we do tend to) argue all day and night about whats optimal in the pursuit of a weight loss goal. Whats optimal is in my opinion of far less importance as a discussion on what is actually in the best interests of the client or the general public. What is actually in the best interests of the people is to know that there are any number of approaches that will get the job done. Going lower carb will get the job done if it results in going from an excessive total intake to a more appropriate total intake. Going lower fat will get the job done if it results in going from an excessive total intake to a more appropriate total intake. Going some variation of paleo or clean eating will get the job done if it results in going from an excessive total intake to a more appropriate total intake. Note the reoccurring theme there? None of these approaches work to the exclusion of all the others. At the end of the day it comes down to a more appropriate total intake, and around here we like to actually use maths to predict that appropriate target and then we hit that target with reasonable accuracy as consistently as possible with the foods we were probably going to eat anyway, and hopefully more of the more nutrient dense (aka healthier) choices. Understanding the difference between a training program that is actually effective in prioritising the maintenance and creation of lean mass and one that merely burns calories pointlessly is also in the best interests of the people. What is NOT in the best interests of the people is the idea that one wrong move, one indulgent choice thats not on the approved & allowed list for whatever chosen approach is going to instantly mean failure, ill health and weight gain. I want people to be enthusiastic about training because theyve begun to enjoy it, theyre in love with the results theyre getting, and they feel great about themselves and what theyre doing. I dont want people being obsessed that every choice is make or break, and that theyre never doing well enough. When we get to the point that were suggesting that its helpful or important to split hairs over which choices of vegetable are healthier than others... jesus christ, have a think about what youre saying people! For the people: hit appropriate total calories, enough protein, fiber and get your fruit and veg as per the healthy living guidelines. Train effectively and you will be AMAZED at how easy it is to start seeing progress towards your goal body. Success is absolutely certain and inevitable with this approach. Dave Hargreaves Personal Training Tom Mcdonald : Great post, only thing make sure low carb people know it is mostly water weight. Which will return with carb intake.
