Seriously angry right now. A growing subset of my fellow Americans is putting MY children at risk over their selfish, misinformed, stubborn decision to not vaccinate their kids. Were losing herd immunity for whooping cough, and its killing kids again. In America. In 2014. I just dont understand the logic. First of all, youre taking health advice from a group lead by Jenny McCarthy? Someone whos famous literally only because she was blonde and got naked. Secondly, you refuse all scientific research which proves conclusively, repeatedly, from countries all over the world that there is NO LINK between vaccinations and autism (or any other negative results, for that matter, short of extremely obscure, nearly non-statistically significant minor allergic reactions). And even if you honestly believe vaccinations cause autism and the entire planets scientific community is lying, you are still choosing to risk death (DEATH!) over autism. These diseases are deadly...its not just an inconvenience and then you get better. Scarlet Fever kills people. Whooping cough kills people. If you choose not to have your daughter vaccinated, and later on, when shes pregnant with a baby of her own, and she develops rubella? Congratulations! Your selfish decision has just given your grandchild congenital rubella syndrome. 50+% chance for deafness, blindness, or congenital heart disease (or any combination of those three). Even if the baby is lucky and avoids those, they still have a greater than average chance for developmental delays, schizophrenia, learning disabilities, diabetes, liver disease, physical deformities, and even that autism you were so worried about. The absolute worst part about this though is these diseases were effectively eliminated from America. But because some people cant be bothered to think and research for themselves, the entire country has to suffer. My own children are at risk for diseases they should have never had to worry about. Finally, if after all of that, you still choose not to vaccinate your children, please have a look on youtube for Infant girl with whooping cough. I wont link it, its too hard to watch, and those of you who already do vaccinate shouldnt suffer through it. In the background you can hear the oxygen monitor alerting because the poor thing literally cannot take a breath for well over a minute, and is slowly suffocating. THAT is what you are risking for your children. THAT is what you are risking for MY children. This is not a personal decision. This is a decision that effects every human being your child comes in contact with. Please, anyone who disagrees with me please just look for yourself. Dont trust a blog. Dont trust a celebrity with no credentials. Find a peer-reviewed source (that means that the people making sure its accurate are not paid by the same people who funded the research). If you need help finding one, or understanding it, Id be happy to do my best, as would I am sure any primary care physician or nurse you may know. No apologies for the rant. If youre not upset by this too, you need to watch that video I mentioned. You need to imagine that its your baby youre trying to comfort as its suffering in your arms and youre powerless to help it. I hope that none of us ever have to see these diseases first hand.
