Service Spotlight: Surgery Anoka Equine Veterinary Services (AEVS) offers a wide variety of both elective and emergency surgical options. Our doctors and staff provide the experience, equipment, and commitment for high quality surgical procedures. We have five doctors who preform surgery at Anoka Equine Veterinary Services including Dr. Tracy Turner who is board certified with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Between our five doctors, they have achieved over 60 years of combined experience. Anoka Equine Veterinary Services offer 24-hour intensive care monitoring before and after emergency surgical procedures. The surgical suite is equipped with a hydraulic table and a padded surgery room which doubles as a recovery room. Some problems cannot wait; therefore, our hospital and staff are prepared to perform colic surgeries, joint lavages, laceration repairs, cast applications, Caesarian sections, uterine torsions, and many others at any given time. Anoka Equine Veterinary Services has three doctors and four technicians who have advanced training in equine anesthesiology. Along with their training, AEVS uses anesthetic equipment to aid in monitoring our patients throughout the entire procedure including oxygen and carbon dioxide readings, blood pressure via arterial line, and Electrocardiogram (aka EKG). Not every situation will require an emergency surgery. There are numerous conditions corrected by elective surgeries used to improve the quality of life for both the horse and owner. Depending on the elective surgery taking place, it can either be performed under general anesthetic in the surgery suite or as a standing procedure under sedation. Some examples are: open and closed castration, ovarioectomy , hernia repair, neurectomy, and numerous bone corrective surgeries .
