Service confusion with Common rail pipework reuse One of the associated issues with high pressure common rail technology is the fact that some manufacturers stipulate the replacement of the associated pipework leading to and from the common rail if loosened/removed. This rule differs between each manufacturer. Some allow for pipework reuse up to 5 times before mandatory replacement(obviously if in a serviceable condition). There are also limited lifespan pipework that must be replaced as stipulated in the service regime regardless of being loosened. Here is one example: The new Mazda 2.2 and 3.2 UP model BT50s must have their pipework replaced if they are loosened or removed. But the previous model UN 2.5 and 3.0l models pipes may be reused up to 5 times. For the mechanic this creates uncertainty when servicing these models. When servicing models that have the reuse policy, note in the owners handbook the work that was carried out in the inside front cover (or glue in a new blank page if there is no room) to alert future technicians:
