Sette and the PIFSC Protected Species Division had a very successful Monk Seal camp recovery expedition to the Northwest Hawaiian Islands this year! Monk Seal surveys were conducted on Kure, Midway, Lisianski, Laysan, Pearl and Hermes, French Frigate Shoals, and Niihau. Scientists conducting surveys tagged individual seals for future study, and gathered valuable information about survival and reproductive rates in order to facilitate population recovery efforts. Sette also had the privilege of relocating seals from areas indicative of lower survival rates to areas of higher survival rates. All our transported seals had 24 hour veterinary care available, and their health and behavior was monitored at all times.
