Setting the Captives Free – Isaiah 61:1 9-20-2013 How Big Is Your God (god) and Who or What is Your God (god)? This message is to give everybody a better understanding of how great the true and living God is. It will also help the saved and unsaved to know that no god (whatever or whoever) is greater than the Lord God Almighty. Who is like our God? There is none like Him - He is great and He does wondrous things (Psalm 86:8-10). God holds everything in His hand; He measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and heaven with a span (spread of the fingers), He calculated the dust, weighed the mountains on a scale, and the hills in a balance (Isaiah 40:12). Our God is Awesome! Since God holds everything in His hand, why do people sing: “Put Your Hand in Mine; I need You Jesus, put Your Hand in Mine”? There are many scriptures to prove the greatness of God, that’s the reason I can’t understand why someone would sing such a song; it is belittling (being regarded as less important- that is absolutely disgusting!) to The Great and Awesome God Almighty. Who or what can be compared to our God (Psalm 89:6)? Who laid the foundations of the earth (Psalm 104:5-6)? Since God created everything, it certainly would stand to reason that He also owns everything (Psalm 24:1-2; Psalm 50:10-12) and He is the greatest! This is how David viewed God and we should look at Him the same way. God fearfully and wonderfully made us with such uniqueness that there are no two people exactly alike. God is the only One who knows everything about us and He knows everything we do (Psalm 139:1-18). Do you know how many hairs are on your head? Well, God does (Matthew 10:30). God revealed Himself in a mighty powerful way when Elijah, a prophet of the Lord was in a contest with the 450 prophets of Baal. These prophets cried out to Baal (their god), but he didn’t answer. God rained down fire from heaven and consumed their sacrifice and the fire even licked up the water that was in the trench (ditch). This powerful act showed the prophets of Baal that their god was powerless and could not be compared to the Lord God Almighty (1 Kings 18:20-40). Who showed Pharaoh’s wise men, sorcerers and magicians that His power was greater? These men cast down their rods and the rods became serpents, but Aaron cast down one rod and it swallowed the other rods (Exodus 7:10-12). God has proved His great power throughout history. There is nobody greater than God! God and Job had a conversation after Job had been stricken and lost everything. Job’s understanding was minimal when it came to God. Job’s circumstances and the conversations with his friends caused problems when it came to what he was experiencing. God asked Job some questions that had been raised against Him. The story is recorded in Job 38-40. This scripture really stands out: Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you and you shall answer Me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! And the story continues (Job 38:3-5). God relates to each us according to what is going on in our life and He relates to us according to our personality (the way He wired us). Who is the only One who knows everything? God is Omniscience (satan doesn’t know everything; he can’t read our minds- but he does put thought in our minds). Who is the only One that is everywhere at the same time? God is Omnipresent (satan certainly can’t be everywhere at the same time; that’s why he has demons). There is nobody greater than God; He is the only Almighty One! He alone has all the power; God is Omnipotent (satan’s power is limited). There can never be any denial of this Great and Awesome God, because He is revealed through His creative acts: For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so they are without excuse (Romans 1:20). Nobody is without excuse as to who God is! The question was asked: “how big is your God (god) and who or what is your God (god)”? I pray that all readers will examine The God of the Bible and find out how great He is, and if He really is your God. This is just another one among many verses in the book of Psalms: For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods (Psalm 95:3). Unshackled - Evangelist Betty A. Burnett
