Setting yourself goals, no matter how big or small they are, are great to motivate you and move you forward. But how do you set yourself goals? - Have a clear end goal. The thing you want to achieve the most. Dont cut yourself short, it its big and it scares you a little, go for it! Its exciting! - Write that end goal down. Look at it. Draw a circle around it. Think about what that goal means to you. From that circle, write words around it which you will feel when you achieve that end goal. You may write words like proud, emotional, happy, confident, healthy and so on... That itself is VERY powerful. Those emotions are linked to that end goal. More than likely something you are not feeling at present. YOU MUST PUT A DATE ON IT - A DEADLINE. Without a deadline to reach this will add to the list of all the other goals you have told yourself youve try to achieve in the past. It may be 6 months away, it may be 6 weeks. But put a date to it. OK... Now you must work backwards. Break it down. Into smaller chunks. Divide the end goal by months, weeks, days... Put dates on them and what you want to achieve by that date. Once you have worked your way right back to today, create an action plan to get you moving forward. A daily checklist of simple tasks, small tasks, which will add up to be a big impact. A study from Harvard University showed that 3% of Graduates achieved 10 times more than the other 97%. This was down to the fact that the 3% of MBA Graduates set themselves goals. 13% of them had goals, but never committed them to paper or wrote them down. 84% had no clear goals at all. So, it may sound like a simple task, and that is what it is really, but its extremely powerful and is what separates those who achieve great results, to those who dont.
