Seven English Premier League truths Posted: 30 Sep 2013 12:14 AM PDT LONDON, England, September 30- Following last weekend’s English Premier League action, here’s seven truths that emerged as Arsenal remained on top with Liverpool climbing to second following their win over Sunderland on Sunday. 1. Arsenal could really, possibly, actually do it The Gunners were slick in victory against a good Swansea side, and with Aaron Ramsey morphing into the new Paul Scholes they suddenly find themselves top of the league and with stability on their side. It is looking increasingly like Wenger was right after all. 2. David Moyes is out of his depth His negative tactical set-up, the dire style of play, the misuse of Shinji Kagawa and David De Gea’s slump in form – and don’t even mention the transfer window. Manchester United’s new boss took over a middling squad with an excellent backroom staff, but failed to revitalise the team while offloading all of Fergie’s experienced assistants – including the goalkeeping coach who learned Spanish so he could sort De Gea out. The defeat by West Brom was terrible, and now Moyes is openly questioning his own side’s European credentials – unthinkable eight weeks ago. The transition has been woefully mishandled, and it remains to be seen how patient the Glazers are under pressure. 3. Sunderland aren’t that bad They may have lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool but Sunderland were arguably deserving of at least a point, foiled by some rotten luck, a missed handball call and the Sturridge-Suarez partnership, arguably the best up front duo in the league right now. Whoever comes in next has some decent players to work with, and surely their delight at getting rid of the maniac Di Canio will help them off the foot of the table? 4. Daniel Sturridge is the new Luis Suarez Some scintillating approach play yielded two brilliant assists, and he scored with his hand. Yes, Sturridge is a slightly less flamboyant Suarez with – and this was previously his Achilles heel – greatly improved decision making. 5. Martin Jol will be sacked if Fulham lose to Stoke The Whites boss looks like he can’t be bothered, as Fulham slumped to a home defeat to promoted Cardiff. With the players at his disposal they should not be in this position, but his lack of motivation seems to be rubbing off in his players. Expect King Khan to act if they are beaten next time out. 6. Everton are the only unbeaten team in the Premier League Roberto Martinez’s progressive style of play has married well with the solid organisation left by Moyes. They did not play this weekend (Newcastle at home on Monday), meaning they are the only unbeaten team left in the league. 7. Fernando Torres is the new Didier Drogba Bustling forward play, lairy tete-a-tetes with defenders, a strong sense of gamesmanship, the odd stray elbow and an apparently unfair dismissal – if Jose Mourinho was over-reliant on Drogba in his previous stint as Chelsea boss, he has a ready-made (if slightly less imperious) replacement in the all-new aggro Nando. - By EuroSport on Yahoo!
