Seven volcanic quakes recorded at Taal Restive Taal volcano in Batangas province rumbled anew with at least seven volcanic quakes in the last 24 hours, state volcanologists said early on Saturday. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) also recorded at least one volcanic quake in the same period. In its 8:00 a.m. update, Phivolcs said Taal Volcano’s seismic network recorded seven volcanic earthquakes during the past 24-hour observation period, adding the western sector of the Main Crater Lake had a slight increase in water temperature of 33.6 from 33.2 degrees Celsius. Phivolcs also noted an increase in water level of 0.31 meter from 0.27 meter and slight decrease in water acidity of pH 3.06 from pH 3.04. However, it said Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Taal Volcano, meaning a hazardous eruption is not imminent. The public, however, is reminded that the Main Crater should be strictly off-limits because sudden steam explosions may occur and high concentrations of toxic gases may accumulate, it said. It also said the northern portion of the Main Crater rim, in the vicinity of Daang Kastila Trail, may also become hazardous when steam emission along existing fissures suddenly increases. Phivolcs reminded the public as well that the entire Volcano Island is a permanent danger zone and permanent settlement in the island is strongly not recommended.
