Seventy years ago today, the German Army launched an offensive that completely took the Allies by surprise. As Nazi troops pushed through American lines near the Ardennes Forest, it created a bulge that gave the week long battle its name. Battle of the Bulge Veterans are in their late 80s and early 90s now. Many of them were young, untested troops who were quickly moved to the front lines without adequate gear and little ammunition. Half a million Americans fought in the Battle of the Bulge, with more than 19,000 losing their lives.
