Several Amazing Things Happened Today The girls had a follow up appointment with their neurologist in NYC. Eric and I got Autumn off to school as usual (she gets picked up at 6:50). Ava slept in while I got dressed (awesome thing # 1) and Eric left for work. Ava and I went to pick up Autumn first. On the way Ava used her Talker (iPad with So Much 2 Say communication app) to repeatedly say, I want Autumn. (Thats #2) Autumn was waiting for us with an excited grin anticipating our arrival in the office with her amazing para Ms. S. (Thats pretty awesome. Well call that beautiful smile #3). Just as we were walking out of the office the bell rang and tons of 12 and 13 year olds poured into the halls. I looked at Autumn for signs of anxiety. She was all smiles as she looked around at her peers (#4). As I reached for the door, feeling triumphant and super proud of my girls, a delightful girl walking with her friends approached Autumn, looked at her warmly and said Hi Autumn! Autumn smiled back and we walked out the door (#5 if youre still counting). I held back tears as we walked to the car. THIS is inclusion. We picked Eric up from work and drove for over 2 hours without any technology (other than their talkers of course) - and they didnt explode! No DVD - no wonder pets. Just a beautiful scenic ride (#6). Of course Ava used her talker to request iPad, iPhone, Wonder Pets, The Little Mermaid, Etc. The doctor appointment went well and were almost home. Overall a good day :-)
