Several mornings a week I see a woman and a young teen boy walk - TopicsExpress

Several mornings a week I see a woman and a young teen boy walk past our house. I dont get the sense she is his parent, I believe she is his teacher or aide and is helping him learn skills like crossing the street safely. Ive said hello to them before but havent stopped to chat, it feels like I would interrupt their therapy session and be a distraction to the boy. He is nonverbal and Im not sure if my talking to them would be upsetting to him, for which Id feel terrible. He is one of the few people my dogs do not bark at. Ive seen them for years and Ive seen her work though some difficult moments with him. Never once has she lost her temper. She is loving and firm. She seems to have limitless patience, something I in particular need a good role model for! She acknowledges his limitations without lowering her expectations of him. She understands what he needs to learn and meets him where he is at. I look forward to seeing them on their morning walks as they are an excellent reminder to me each time I see them that working with or raising children is all about teaching, and that every moment we can be doing it with respect, firmness, and love.
