Several of you have asked me how I got bilateral hernias. My answer is simple. For about 8 years of my life (1995 to 2002) I was a Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic which required me to lift patients (many upwards of 400 pounds) into and out of an ambulance. Not to mention lift them from their bed onto the stretcher, and then again off the stretcher and onto a hospital bed. Not to mention carry them (while on the stretcher) down flights of stairs inside and outside of apartment buildings and homes. Because of my decision to have a career helping people, I am now paying the price physically and financially. No, Im not complaining. I would not trade those years and experience for anything, but it is what it is.
