Several options in relation to rehabilitation works are being considered by the Ministry of Transport and Works. According to Chief engineer Brent Bailey, who along with the Prime Minister toured the Belmont/ Ginger village area where the major land slide took place recently, “a mountain that is 150 ft high can be done in two ways: tunnelling, which requires major earth work, or to cut the bank and shift the entire road”. Bailey said he believe the cheaper solution will be to shift the road inwards. Bailey added that the cost of the project would be very costly and will be valued at about 15 million dollars. He further noted that it will take at least 8 months to a year of road closure, because of the vast amount of work involved.
