Several people have asked my how I feel about hitting 70 in a couple of months. The worst birthday was 25. I was lying on a bunk in Thailand facing two more years in the Army. It hit me that I wasnt handsome, I wasnt famous, I wasnt rich, and it was absurdly unlikely that Id ever be any of those things. Subsequently, I skipped 30; had the best birthday party ever at 35; cringed at 40; had another terrific party at 50; life much too complicated to notice 60; embraced 65 (social security and medicare) like a long lost lover; and now.... I havent a freakin clue about 70 except that it pisses me off I will no longer be permitted to drive a rental car in Europe.
