Several people have asked over the last few days why Christians are not regularly part of the discussion here in The Tent. When I started this discussion group under another name a few years ago I was particularly interested in the areas where Jews and Muslims could come to understand one another and understand more about themselves in the process. It was never meant to deny the Abrahamic origins of much of Christianity or to insult Christians but to give Muslims and Jews a place to stand on common ground and to create a platform for talking about the big issues that seem to divide us. I also chose to focus on people with strong religious committments in their own tradition (which is in itself unusual in these kind of dialogues) Fortunately there are many opportunities for religious dialogue both on the internet and locally. These forums virtually always includeChristians and I applaud that. I can also foresee a time in the future when our own Tent might organically expand to include our Christian brothers and sisters. I dont see that happening right now. I hope that our Christian friends will continue to look in through the flaps and I hope that some of our members will direct them to forums that might have a more broad scope than this one. On behalf of myself and the other moderators, I want to apologize if this policy has in any way seemed disrespectful or if, in our zeal, we have implemented it with anything less than kindness and appreciation.
