Several people have overdosed on heroin here in the last few days. There may be a bad batch circulating. Please be aware, and know that anyone who calls 911 to save a life will not be prosecuted for drug possession. IPD Investigators are looking into the possibility that the overdoses are related, ie the same heroin source was used by the overdose victims, and whether or not the heroin was laced with a foreign substance such as fentanyl. However, it is still too early to conclude this. Toxicology tests of two people who have recently died will determine if the deaths are the result of a drug overdose, as is suspected, and which drug specifically caused the overdose. It is anticipated that this information will not be available for at least several weeks, though. The incidents that Investigators are evaluating to see if similarities exist include: October 25, 2014 12:28 pm- A subject died while walking in the 100 block of Chestnut Street. This subject is believed to have overdosed on heroin. An autopsy has been performed and IPD Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports. October 27, 2014 1:03 pm- A subject was found passed out in a bathroom of a commercial business in the 200 block of South Meadow Street. This subject was revived with Naloxone (Narcan) and transported to a local hospital. October 28, 2014 10:30 am- A subject died inside of an apartment in the 100 block of West State Street. This subject is believed to have overdosed on heroin. An autopsy will be performed and IPD Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports.
