Severe SITUATION STATUS # 1.1 NEW JERSEY STATE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER June 13, 2013, 1430 hours Severe Weather Event NORTH REGION SUMMARY The North Region received heavy rain this morning. Presently, the North Region is only experiencing light rain and there are no major events reported. There are no significant traffic delays reported. Bergen County has staged a large generator and large pump in Borough of Moonachie in the event their pumps fail. There is an additional pump staged within Bergen County as a secondary back-up. The Saddle River at Lodi is not predicted to hit Action Stage. United Water did release water from the Oradell Reservoir. Bergen County OEM has no concerns with respect to river flooding at this time, but is monitoring the situation. School districts and government buildings are all expected to remain open. The North Region will continue to monitor the situation and remain in close communication with the County OEM’s. EOC Activations: No EOC’s are activated. Power Outages: There are no significant power outages. Evacuations/Shelters: There are no evacuations or shelters opened. Resource Requests: There are no resource requests. Events of Significance: There are no events of significance. SOUTH REGION SUMMARY The South Region Counties experienced heavy rain, hail and lightning over a two hour period from 1000 - 1200 hours. There were some lightning strikes to structures in the South Region but no significant fires were reported. Flood gauge readings across the region indicated no flooding along the coast and minor flooding in along the Millstone River and Rancocas Creek. There are no issues or concerns reported by any South Region Counties at this time. EOC Activations: There are no EOCs activated at this time. Power Outages: Atlantic City Electric has approximately 1774 outages in the region. Evacuations/Shelters: There are no evacuations or shelters opened. Resource Requests: There are no resource requests. Events of Significance: There was a sink hole on the Garden State Parkway mile marker 58 NB, in Little Egg Harbor, which caused the roadway to be closed. The NJTP Maintenance repaired the hole and the roadway has been reopened. Weather Updates: North Region: The current forecast indicates that the North Region will continue experience periods of heavy rain and strong winds until tomorrow morning. Rainfall amounts are predicted to be from 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts near 4 inches possible. This may cause urban flooding and flooding on small streams. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until tomorrow morning. At this time the only concern with river flooding is the Millstone River and the Passaic River. The Millstone River is predicted to hit moderate flood stage tomorrow which will cause secondary road closures but will not impact any residential areas. The Passaic River is predicted to hit minor flood stage tomorrow which also will not impact any residential areas. The forecast for the Passaic River at Little Falls dropped from 7.7 feet to 7.1 feet this morning. The Ramapo River in Pompton Lakes is predicted to hit exactly at Action Stage which will not have any impact on residential areas. South Region: Showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then showers and scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds and heavy rainfall in the evening. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Lows in the upper 50s. West winds around 10mph, becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of rain 90%. New Jersey River Gauges as of 1300 hours: · There are no Flood Gauges currently indicating Major Flooding. · There are no Flood Gauges currently indicating Moderate Flooding. · There are no Flood Gauges currently indicating Minor Flooding. · There are six Flood Gauges currently indicating Near Flood (Action) Stage.
