Severe Weather Update: I know this is going to sound crazy and it probably is, but models are insistent on a very favorable track for an upper low to move into OK on Sunday. If this was late April or early May youd be hearing the term tornado outbreak. However, were in December. So what gives? A low CAPE high Shear environment will be in place. Typically this helps limit the number of tornadoes because of the limited surface instability present (hello McFly its cold outside), but the shear strength of the storm system itself cranks the wind field and spins it like a top as you go from the surface to 20,000 feet. So what does this mean you ask? Well, expect showers and storms to develop by late Sunday morning across TX panhandle and those to work through OK during the day Sunday. Expect pockets of damaging winds and small hail. A couple of weak tornadoes cant be ruled out. Wild I know but weve had 9 Decembers since 1950 that had tornadoes! Ill update you as we get closer. If the models are wrong on the placement and speed then details can change a hair. Please share the post and download my free weather app which will give you advance warning before a tornado even develops!
