Severe Weather Warning IDV28000 Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds and heavy rain for people in the Central and West and South Gippsland forecast districts Issued at 3:42 pm EDT on Tuesday 12 November 2013. Weather Situation An intense low pressure system just south of Bairnsdale is currently moving westwards across eastern Bass Strait this afternoon and evening, before weakening and moving slowly southeastwards across Tasmania later Wednesday. Damaging winds around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h are forecast for coastal areas of the West and South Gippsland forecast district this evening and overnight. Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is expected to develop this evening and overnight for eastern parts of the Central district, and for the West and South Gippsland district. Rain should ease during Wednesday as the low pressure system weakens and moves away. The Severe Weather Warning for East Gippsland district has been cancelled as the area of heavy rain has contracted westwards of the area. The situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary. Since 9am Monday, Reeves Knob has recorded 96.2mm, Gabo Is 77.8mm, Mallacoota 74.2mm and Mt Moornapa 67.4mm The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
