Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts Issued at 10:52 am EST on Friday 16 August 2013. DAMAGING WINDS DEVELOPING FOR SOUTHERN RANGES LATE FRIDAY. Weather Situation Increasing northwesterly winds ahead of the cold front expected to move through southeast NSW Saturday morning. Winds expected to ease behind front. Damaging winds averaging around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are forecast for the Snowy Mountains, ACT and Southern Tablelands forecast districts late Friday and early Saturday morning, particularly for higher parts. Winds about the Alpine peaks may average 80 km/h and gust to 120 km/h. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
