Sgt W here from Tennent St NPT Busy day for us up in Ballysillan today. Myself, Karl and Matt were up at the Ballysillan Community Forum for the meeting of the Ballysillan and Upper Ardoyne Neighbourhood Partnership. There was a great attendance of people from statutory agencies, local community organisations and community workers and we had a good deal of discussion around issues like crime, anti-social behaviour, youth provision, education and housing. I must admit that the group gives me a good deal of confidence, and in particular the local people and local groups who really do show so much commitment to the Ballsyillan area. The work being done with the new surgery on the Ballysillan Road and the public realm works at the bottom of Ballysillan Park and the social housing being built in Ballysillan Avenue give me a lot of hope for the future. Dont get me wrong, there are still plenty of issues, not least around some persistent criminals in the area, but everybody is trying to work together to improve things. Plus our normal contact who talks a fair bit was quieter than normal so it only took 2 hours instead of 3!!! D - you know who you are!! We will be up at the Ballsyillan/Benview inter-agency meeting in a few weeks for more partnership work. In addition, Jim was up delivering some citizenship lessons to the kids at Ballysillan Primary School were he got a great reception as always. Matt was then up at the Boys Model assisting staff with some issues with the boys that we will follow up tomorrow. And finally, Karl and Nathan were visiting some elderly people and also speaking to some suspects to make the sure they know that we are keeping an eye out. A lot of work going on in Ballysillan!!
