Shadowboxing is the art of fighting yourself--where the fighter is - TopicsExpress

Shadowboxing is the art of fighting yourself--where the fighter is free to imagine an opponent every bit as clustered, disjointed and predictable as they are. But I cant quite manage this. Ive spent too long studying fighters, steeped in the stories of their delicate strategy, their agility, their mulish will and raw pugilism, to imagine fighting any opponent as bad as myself. So I just try to keep up, flaying and twisting myself in circular motion around an empty ring until the clock screeches 2:55 and my phantom adversary dissolves once again. Editing is underway on all of our forthcoming little books, and the above is a line straight from Paul Cummings How To Start A Fight, a freewheeling analysis of the fictive elements of boxing, accompanied by illustrations and artlessly tabulated lists. Youll be reading the whole thing in a few short months.
