Shaki is the last major Yoruba town to the west end of Oyo State. The ancient town shares its boarders in the west with Kwara State and Republic of Benin respectively. Its unique location accounts largely for its peopling - a relatively heterogeneous population in a large entrepreneurial environment. The topology of the town is characterized by high plains surrounded by stretches of undulating hills particularly from the south west end of Irawo to Agbele and Igboologun and from the South East end of Tede through Aroje Kadri and Erufun to Otun quarters broken by many river valleys. Its landscape from the north end of its boarder with Baruteen Local Government of Kwara State is flat savanna grassland, which adds some natural beauty to its vegetation to create its tourism allure. You can see houses built on hill tops; some buildings seemed sculptured out of rocks with other crammed right under giant boulders. The beautiful rocky summits and plush adjoining forest are important for economic, recreational and religious uses to form part of the Nature wonder of the local surroundings that makes Shaki a spectacular place for tourists to behold. The surrounding hills particularly Asabari, Ajangbawu, Aganran, Amule, Agbele and Asegbe to mention a few combine to provide natural security and protection for the people of the town from the ancient times. The rocks are also naturally blended with eco-tourism of fauna to present a natural ambience of perfect rural tranquility. The climate consists of a distinct wet and dry seasons with occasional South West winds distributing its moisture northwards, which gives credence to why in some part of the year it is cold most part of the day. People can see the fogs particularly in the morning erupting from the surrounding hills as they form a cluster of smokes around the town. The South West wind also decreases the length of the raining season as well as the annual rainfall.
