Shakin Bones Time: Holidays in Early Childhood Programs should not: Ignore peoples religious practices that are different than yours Do Teacher Crap projects Purchase holiday gifts for children that are not real/authentic for them Do Cut and Paste projects for the Christmas Tree Say I celebrate all holidays (Not Possible) Keep children inside when you think it is to cold or snowy Ask children to be less egocentric than they can be Create plays, performances, other public displays Do cooking experiences that use cookie cutters Scent the clay or playdough peppermint Make the water in your water table green or red Read stories that relate to Christmas Cut your easel paper into Holiday Shapes for painting on Invite Santa Claus to visit Do worksheets/dittoes that relate to holidays Play Pin the Nose on Rudolph Hide the Elf games Decorate Christmas Trees Have children make holiday gifts for their parents/guardians Sing Christmas Carols Have children kiss each other under the Mistletoe Write Santa a letter Why? Because we believe in Play....and we must be accepting of every child that enters our door on Monday. Can you tell that I am a little bothered by all the stuff I am seeing on Facebook that is not child directed... Happy Holidays
