Shameful : Drivers charging Rs 15,000 for day trip!! By Satish Bardewa (TAAS President) The Reports of sky rocketing vehicle fare being charged by the transporters/driver are pouring in. This over charging trend is very dangerous for the future of Sikkim Tourism Industry. There may be time when when no tourist would prefer to come to Sikkim..especially in sectors like Tsomgo-Nathula and North Sikkim. The complaints are coming that the drivers are charging Rs. 15,000 for a day trip to Nathula and some drivers are charging Rs. 25,000/-for 2 N 3 days trip to North Sikkim. How this is justified? TAAS has always worked for Sustainable Tourism in Sikkim. This over charging trend will kill the growing tourism industry of Sikkim. The hard work that TAAS and other tourism stake holders have put in over the years will go down the drain. TAAS will submit the report to the Government and will also demand the Tourist Bus to protect the interest of TAAS members. We must be alert of the time when the industry gets badly effected, and then the sustainability of the tourism industry and its stake holders and those of drivers and the common man working for tourism will be at a great loss.
