Shared from Susan Bowles: Michael Olenick, who has served as board chairman of Florida Virtual School, was appointed Friday by Gov. Rick Scott to the state Board of Education. Olenick, 62, of Palm City, also is a former general counsel of the Florida Department of Education and works as chief compliance officer and vice president of corporate affairs for The Morganti Group Inc. Information on the Florida Virtual School website indicates he also has served on the Martin County School Board. The appointment, which fills a vacant seat on the state board, took effect Friday but remains subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
