Shared from myGc news : MORE THAN 300 Gold Coasters have come together in an effort to spread an all important message for an all important cause. Free You, Be You is an anti-bullying music video, filmed on the Gold Coast, that directly addresses the victims of bullying by bringing them a message of hope. Written and performed by local 12-year-old Amber Arnold, the music video was brought to life by Writer/Producer Shirley Pierce, Producers Lauren-ann Smith, David Mace-Kaff and Angus Ledgerwood, and Director Tom McSweeney. Amber wrote the song when she was only 9-years-old following severe bullying she suffered at school. Rapper Bulldog, also a victim of bullying on the Gold Coast, joined the team and brought his unique urban groove to the track. Producer Angus Ledgerwood said it was an incredible project to work on. I would like to personally thank all of our crew, cast and supporters for all the time, effort and resources that were put in to the making of this music video, he said. I hope that everyone will join me in sharing this video and spreading the message to people suffering from bullying. You are not alone. Be yourself and be proud. Emmy Award-nominated casting director Tom McSweeney directed the video and is overwhelmed by the final result. Directing this music video was one of the most enjoyable projects Ive ever been involved in as this was a labour of love by everyone involved and we couldnt be more proud of the end result, he said. Clinical Psychologist Terri Sheldon deals with victims of bullying and has commended the efforts by everyone involved in the project. As a Clinical Psychologist working with young people, I often see the damage that bullying does to childrens sense of self worth, she said. I love the message of this clip, I think it goes to the heart of what the victims need to hear, to stand tall and be proud of being yourself. I have shown the clip to a number of young people over the last few days and they love it and the message. Well done everyone who worked on this project. You did a first class job. One Gold Coast mother, who wished to remain anonymous, was left to withdraw her teenage son from a local high school last week after paramedics were called to treat him when he was assaulted during a bullying incident. The young boy was fitted with a heart monitor when he was punched in the chest.
