Shared my thoughts on a proposal, which I am working on to introduce ARWI, more popularly known as Arabic-Tamil a tradition of writing Tamil using Arabic script practiced by our ancestors here. Though this unique heritage has been discontinued we could re introduce this through curriculum in our 200 strong Arabic College/ Madrasa network. Allama Dr. Uwaise and AMA Azeez and many others have written and promoted the idea of its revival. Asshiekh Dr. Thaikka Shuaib Alim have had done a large volume researching the Origin and practice of this unique tradition among the Muslims of Malabar Coast and Sri Lanka. At todays discussion at Madhrasathul Falah Kattankudy AGM Ameen Falahi and Aliyar Falahi were narrating portions from Fathhud Daiyaan and Thalai Fathiha two of the famous creative literature kept and recited in our households in the past. I remember A Guide to Prayer we used to learn known as Tholugai Adavu also written in Arabic-Tamil . My Grand Father Uthuma Lebbe Alim of Hapugasthawa is a well known Scholar who composed Badru Maalai, collection of devotional songs in praise of the Companions of the Holy Prophet who took part in the battle of Badr. I would welcome any one willing to share their thoughts on this project. I have discussed this with Director Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and currently working on the concept paper. I have spoken to a few Islamic Scholars to engage them to prepare a detailed proposal for implementation through our Arabic Colleges to revive this extinct tradition.
