Sharing a lovely story.... Bobby is a male Shih Tzu about 8 years old who was rescued by PAWS from Renbury Pound in October 2012. Bobby was a very sick dog when he arrived from the Pound with huge lymph glands in his neck and groin so we were all very worried that Bobby had T or B cell lymphoma and would die quickly. PAWS wanted to do as much as we could to prolong his life so tests were done on Bobby’s blood and also a biopsy of his lymph nodes. The results came back with the diagnosis of a form of cancer called “indolent lymphoma”. This is a rare type of lymphoma characterised by a slow rate of progression so it carries with it a reasonable short to medium term prognosis. It is still technically a malignant form of white blood cell cancer and some dogs can live for years but PAWS could not put Bobby up for adoption with such an uncertain future health wise. Bobby went into foster care with a lovely American lady and her Australian partner who have grown to love Bobby very much. They have taken him on holidays around Australia and he has had a wonderful life living at Bondi with them and his doggy ‘brother’, another rescue dog adopted by the couple. Not many people would be prepared to adopt a dog with such serious health issues as they would grow to love him only to perhaps lose him quickly so we assumed that Bobby would stay in care as a ‘sanctuary dog’ until his time came. Bobby is a beautiful soul that captured the hearts of his foster carers and they love him so much that they have decided to adopt him themselves. The couple are moving back to the United States and of course Bobby and his ‘brother’ are going with them! We are thrilled for Bobby who was a neglected, sad and sorry sight 10 months ago. Enjoy your new life Bobby ... we will think of you often and pray that you are with us for a long time yet!
