Sharing a post from classmate Louie Aguinaldo. It reflects our sentiment; or if not, it should be. Please don’t give then turn away. It is day 5 after the typhoon ravaged central Philippines. So far the only real focus has been on one city, yet there are dozens of cities, towns and villages that have not come to the attention of the media or the public. If there is so much misery and desperation in Tacloban wherein most relief efforts are headed, how much more might we expect in areas that still have no communication, no ways to reach, no electricity, and no food and water. Just about everyone is responding, both locally and internationally. So many organizations, groups and individuals have been pitching in to give donations. Sadly, international news reports that very little help has actually reached due to logistical problems. The Philippines seems unable to deal with the logistical nightmares as a result of damaged airports, blocked roads, and total devastation of buildings and facilities. Most local government agencies in the areas are barely functioning since their personnel are also victims having to deal with taking care of their families. All reports show desperation. It seems we are awaiting the rushing in by the US and the international community of their logistical support to get the relief efforts to reach the devastated communities. There is so much more to do. Let’s do what we can. Find a way. Please don’t just give then turn away. Let’s not assure our consciences that “I already donated” and feel that’s enough. Keep them in your prayers. Still find ways to help. There is no excuse. You cannot exist right now and not see all the opportunities to help screaming all around you. Even malls and food establishments are accepting donations. So many utility companies, businesses and organizations are accepting donations. Just about every major school is collecting donations. Wherever you turn there is an option to send your aid. Even if you don’t leave your home there are options to help online and even send help through text. It doesn’t matter how much. Just keep giving. Please don’t help then turn away. Keep on helping. Find a way. We have brothers and sisters who have lost just about everything. They lost not only loved ones, all their material belongings, their homes, but even the community where they lived. Help must not stop at keeping them alive during this time, but even to rebuild their lives and their community in the weeks to come. Let’s not help then turn away.
