Sharing on the struggles we are facing now.... My Evelyn (aged 3.5) has brittle bone. Her bones break as easy as a fall or a hard bump. She is categorized as a physical-disabled child with mobility issues. Her intelligent is normal hence she deserved a normal education. She is currently walking independently. Due to her brittle bone condition she required an aide at all time (at least at her age). This is to avoid accident and to help her mobility. However her condition is being discriminated in our society. I have been asking around kindergarten around my area. Unfortunately most of the response I have got were very much disappointed. Simply they are lack of disabled awareness or they dont want to take the accident risk. In overseas, children with this condition are eligible for attending school with a medical aided provided (not hired under the parents). I explained to some of the kindergarten so the are 2 centers that are willing to accept my idea, but with a T&C that a medical aide must be hired to be with Evelyn in the school. I do not trust any of the medical aide here so I want to be the aide myself for my Evelyn. They declined my proposal right away because this may incur more problems to the centre when other children request the same too. I have been homeschooling Evelyn in the past 2 years. Her intelligent is above her age. So I thought of sending her to a kindergarten next year when she turns 4. She is very eager to attend school. Each time when we passed by kindergarten she said she would love to go school like any other children. She is still young to understand her condition. I tried to explain to her the reason of not letting her to go school. She seemed very disappointed. It is heart wrenching to learn about our children with disability are struggling with going to school. Not that they cant wake up in the morning but because they are different in physical do not mean they do not deserve a quality education. All they want is to be accepted.
