Shark Knowledge Omer (in bed, falling asleep): Imma, what happens if a fish stops moving? Mieka: What do you mean? Like a shark? Omer: Yeah. What happens if it stops moving? Mieka: If a shark stops moving it would sink. But other fish can stop moving because they have an air bubble inside that helps them stay floating. Omer: So what happens if a shark sinks? Mieka (feeling her knowledge being stretched by this curious little six year old): Hmm. Well if the water is very deep, I think a shark couldnt survive because it would be too dark & too cold. Omer: And there are other fish there. Mieka: Yup. Omer: With lights. Mieka: Some if them have lights. Omer: But a whale could survive. Mieka: It could? Omer: Yeah, because it has a really thick layer of blubber so it can survive in the cold. Mieka: Maybe. You know, honey, you are very, very smart. Do you know that? Omer: Yeah. Mieka (Not wanting him to get arrogant): But whats great is not so much what you already know. Its that you ask great questions. Thats really important. There are always more things that we dont know, and if we stop asking questions well never learn them. Omer: Like sharks. Mieka (confused): Like sharks? Omer: If they stop moving theyll sink to the bottom. Mieka (dumbfounded):... Omer: their movement is like our knowledge. Mieka (dumbfounded):... Omer: Im thirsty. Can you get me some water? (And falls asleep)
