Sharon Day is walking the entire length of the Ohio River. She began in Pittsburgh last week. Friends living along the Ohio join her as she walks & keep her company. As she walks she gives us her observations: I walk along the Ohio river On highway 65 heading south I pass coal fired electrical plants and within a quarter of a mile are two nuclear power generators Sitting right on the river As I walk by them the copper vessel with the water in one hand, eagle feather in the other, filled with sadness the words to a Midewiwin faith song comes to me and I sing Wenajiwingay laying asemaa down. The ground is strewn with empty cans of bud lite, monster energy drinks, camels, baggies and plastic bottles filled with Amber colored liquid - truckers throw out their windows too rushed to stop to take a leak. All this strewn along the road by my fellow humans. Used and discarded. This is how we treat our Mother Earth. Can we change? Will we change? Sharon M. Day.
